Reducing Unnecessary Hospital Visits

The NHS’ drive to utilise technology to reduce unnecessary visits to hospitals has recently gained momentum with a number of Trusts launching or expanding their ‘Hospital at Home’ service.

The TotalExam 3 Camera can share images and video remotely of the eye, ear, throat and skin.

The initiative allows patients unable to attend hospital easily to receive ongoing treatment in their own home, administered by a local District Nurse (or similar) but using technology to remotely connect with specialist consultants.

We have recently enhanced our VirtualCare range to include a VirtualCare Briefcase. The briefcase can be tailored to meet the needs of a particular service but will typically include a built-in speaker and microphone connected to a rugged tablet and space for a range of connected devices including a HD camera with ear, nose and throat adaptors.

We are also in discussions with a number of Hospital Trusts, GP’s and CCG’s to explore wider uses within the community including in Care Homes.

The advantages of allowing a consultant to complete remote examinations using real-time HD video and still images, together with connected devices such as a Stethoscope, Spirometer, Fundus Camera, ECG and Vital Signs monitor, is that the consultant can examine more patients, spending less time travelling and reducing the risk of infection as fewer people need to enter or leave the care home.
