Sitting is bad for your health

Office staff working in the NHS are spending more and more time seated. Reports show that amongst office workers, up to 85% of time at work is spent seated. They say that hard work never did any harm, but we now know that isn’t true.

Prolonged sitting is one of the major causes of musculoskeletal conditions, including back and neck pain. Up to 40% of sickness absence amongst NHS staff is due to conditions like these. It also largely increases the risk of heart disease, diabetes and obesity. The Energise sit-stand desk can help to address these health risks.

Alternating between sitting and standing throughout the day can not only offset the harmful effects of prolonged sitting, but also positively impact productivity and engagement.

Standing helps to alleviate musculoskeletal conditions, reducing sickness absence across the hospital.

Sit-stand working increases alertness and concentration throughout the day, and reduces the amount of breaks staff take from restlessness caused by sitting.

A sedentary lifestyle may seem harmless, but longer-term, sitting for more than 6 hours per day increases the risk of dying from heart disease, diabetes or obesity by 18%.
