We’re now beginning to see a number of Trusts return their focus to strategic transformation projects such as electronic patient records and electronic prescribing.
One such example is West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, who have now completed the four-week implementation of their ePMA project incorporating Scan4Safety.
The project will increase patient safety and speed up medication rounds, helping to safely administer drugs at the bedside with the aid of barcode scanning, whilst reducing the need for handwritten notes.

The initial roll-out involves 53 mobile dispensing workstations, each fully equipped with an All-In-One PC to access the prescribing record, two scanners for patient and medication confirmation, secure medication storage and a 22-litre sharps bin.
By combining everything needed for safe and efficient medication administration in one lightweight workstation, the Trust is confident that not only will the risk of error be greatly reduced, but also workflow efficiency will increase.
The Trust selected two models of our mobile workstations for the project. The first, the MedRound, is a large capacity ePMA dispensing Cart. The second is the smaller VersaLite ePMA Cart which provides a combination of storage capacity and mobility, and also features an ergonomic comfort keyboard tray.
Both workstations are robust yet lightweight, designed for simple yet highly effective infection control and benefit from a simple one-handed height adjustment feature.
West Suffolk’s IT team helped to roll-out the new Carts that were equipped with All-In-One PCs.
“After listening to the requirements of the Trust, it was clear that our All-In-One Infinity PC would be perfect for this project. The hot-swappable batteries mean that they can be run 24/7 and ensure there’s no downtime when completing drug rounds.
“It’s been a pleasure to work with West Suffolk on their latest Scan4Safety project and we look forward to working with the Trust again in the future.”

The roll-out is part of a larger plan that the Trust is undertaking to deploy electronic prescribing throughout the hospital but also at a number of community sites within the area.
